Designed by Albatros Werke in Germany and built by Albatros and under licence by other German firms, the C.III was a developed version of the C.I, which entered production in 1915. It reached the front from 1916, and the same year it entered Ottoman service.
According to Turkish sources, 66 C.IIIs served with the Ottoman forces, and the type remained in use until 1922. It is one of the aircraft that also served in the Turkish War of Independence.
